Maternity Portrait Tips 1. Maternity portraits or pictures should generally be taken around the 7th or 8th month. The belly is the optium size during the 7th or 8th month forportrait purposes. Earlier than that the belly may be too small. 2. At least several hours before your pregnancy or maternity photo shoot, you should take off anything that has tight elastic like slacks with tight waistbands and undergarmets or bras, or even socks, in order to make sure you don't have elastic or strap marks on your skin. Don't use lotion on your belly, especially the kind to help reduce stretch marks on the day of your scession. If you do, your belly will be really shiney, and thats not a good thing. 3. Tops should be very form fitting.... especially around the bustling. Oversized shirts won't show your form and showing your form is the whole point. You'll want somthing to cover the brests, and yet expose the belly. Bringing a robe is a good idea to throw on in between poses. We do have some drapes and fabrics available. Black and white are key colors. 4. Hands are probaly going to show... so don't forget to have a manicure and a pedicure also, treat yourself, you deserve it. Face powder is always a good idea to eliminate shiney spots. Face blotters work well to absorb facial oil without messing up your makeup. Moisturize elbows and knees but please don't use glittery lotion, it doesn't photograph well. Don't wear makeup with spf because it has a reflective quality when photographed. 5. It's a good idea to eat a light snack before the shoot. 6. Limit jewery to essential pieces. While it's nice to include special or important jewlery in your portraits, too much jewlery can be distracting and may dominate the portrait. 7. It's a good idea to bring images you've tork out of magizines or found on the web when you meet with your photographer. Showing examples is the best way to communicate about the yype of look and mood you want for your portraits. 8. Be on time for your apointment and don't schedule any activities directly after your photo shoot. Quality portraiture requires a good amout of time, you won't want to rush your session and possibly have subpar results. 9. If your planning on having your husband in some images, make sure you discuss it with your husband and photographer so we can give you clothing guidelines. Ideas include you both might want to bring black slacks and to remove his belt or bring one without a shiney buckle as the buckle can be a big distraction in a photo when it catches the light. 10. There is a huge difference between department store photographs and fine art. Don't choose a photographer on price alone. You wouldn't hire a OB/Gyn Doctor, hairdresser,or anything else based on price alone.Take a good look at a photographers work.
